1. Wander Through the Lavender Fields at Hitchin

August is one of the last chances to enjoy the beautiful purple fields at Hitchin Lavender before the season comes to an end. Children love running between the rows, spotting bees from a safe distance and enjoying the open countryside, while parents are treated to some spectacular views.

If you're planning your own family photographs this summer, it's also a lovely reminder that children are happiest when they're free to explore rather than being asked to stand still.

2. Try Indoor Bouldering

If the weather is too hot—or typically British and raining—indoor bouldering is brilliant for adventurous children.

Both Tottenham and London Fields have fantastic climbing centres where youngsters can burn off energy in a safe environment while building confidence and problem-solving skills.

3. Tee Off at Jungle Falls Adventure Golf

Adventure golf is one of those activities that works surprisingly well for a wide age range. Younger children love the waterfalls and dinosaurs, while older siblings enjoy a little friendly competition.

Don't forget to stop for an ice cream afterwards.

4. Discover Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens is one of my favourite places for families who enjoy wandering rather than rushing.

There are beautiful glasshouses, giant trees, plenty of wildlife and enough open space for children to feel like they're on a real adventure.

  1. Race Around Brent Cross Go Karting

Children from aged three and teenagers who are looking for something different, go karting is guaranteed to get the adrenaline going.

It's a great choice for birthdays, school holiday treats or simply an afternoon together.

6. Cheer on Arsenal Women

From September, Arsenal Women's matches are a fantastic introduction to live football for children.

Tickets are usually much more affordable than men's games, the atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, and it's a brilliant way to inspire young football fans while enjoying a day out together.

  1. Have a Family Photoshoot

Not every family adventure has to end when you get home.

An outdoor family photoshoot is a chance to slow down for a couple of hours, explore somewhere beautiful together and create memories that last long after the day itself.

There's no pressure to smile at the camera or keep the children perfectly still. We wander through woodland paths, climb fallen trees, skim stones, stop for snacks and let your children lead the adventure.

Years from now, these photographs become more than pictures. They become reminders of this wonderfully messy, muddy, joyful season of family life.
