Can We Have Family Photos Without Showing Our Children's Faces?

One of the questions I'm asked more and more as a North London family photographer is:

"We'd love beautiful family photographs, but we'd rather not show our children's faces online. Is that possible?"

The answer is absolutely.

In fact, some of my favourite photographs are the ones that leave a little to the imagination.

A child holding your hand as you walk through the woods. Tiny wellies splashing through a puddle. A little hand reaching up for a blackberry. Two siblings disappearing down a woodland path together.

These images don't rely on eye contact with the camera. They tell a story through movement, light

and connection instead.

Beautiful Photographs Don't Always Need Faces

Of course, during every family session I create a gallery of natural portraits where you can see your children's expressions.

But I also quietly look for moments that feel more universal. The back of a little head resting on a parent's shoulder. Silhouettes beneath the trees.

Children running through long grass.

Hands intertwined.

Boots covered in mud after an afternoon of exploring.

These photographs often become some of the most artistic images in a gallery because they invite you to remember the feeling of childhood rather than simply what everyone looked like.

Perfect for Families Who Prefer More Privacy

Many parents choose not to share their children's faces on social media, and I completely understand that.

If that's important to you, simply let me know before your session.

I'll naturally include a collection of photographs where faces aren't visible, giving you beautiful

images to share publicly while keeping more traditional portraits just for your family.

The moments happen naturally as we explore together.

Why Outdoor Family Photography Works So Well

This approach works especially beautifully during my outdoor family photography sessions around North London.

Whether we're wandering through Hampstead Heath, exploring Highgate Wood, or following little woodland trails together, there are endless opportunities to create photographs that celebrate connection, adventure and childhood without every image needing to be front-facing.

The landscape becomes part of the story, allowing your family to simply enjoy being together while I quietly observe the moments unfolding around you.

A Gallery Full of Variety

Every family receives a varied gallery.

Natural family portraits.

Playful candid moments.

Individual photographs.

The classic family portrait for the wall.

And alongside these, a collection of quieter, more artistic images that celebrate the details so easily forgotten—the little hand in yours, muddy boots, windswept hair and the gentle moments between the bigger adventures.

Years from now, those photographs often become just as meaningful as the smiling portraits.

Because sometimes, the photographs that say the most reveal the least.

If you're looking for a North London family photographer who creates relaxed outdoor family photography with plenty of space for both natural portraits and more artistic, privacy-friendly images, I'd love to hear from you.
